Chelsea boss Sonia Bompastor says she is “not surprised” a recent survey has found 78% of women had faced discrimination while working in football.

The Chelsea manager, who said she was not surprised in her response to the survey, said: “But I don’t think it’s because you’re in a work environment (of) women that people are offended by it.

“In my experience, women’s football is very hard work, and it’s very hard for men’s football and the men’s football.

“I have always felt that, in my experience, women who are out on the field (at) any level of football have a lot more problems than men.

“I think that women are not going to be able to do the things they have to do, and I think that is a very big reason why that is a problem for men’s football.”

In the report, which the Daily Telegraph published on Tuesday, Bompastor stressed the importance of women’s football to the success of the club in its bid for promotion.

She said: “I’m not surprised at the findings.

“There is a lot of hard work, and I’m not surprised that the number of women have been subjected to a bias.
